1) CFE.3 | 5.5.2023 🖤
Welcome to the third iteration of the Circular Fashion Expo!
We are ecstatic to be officially launching CFE.3 today with you all! As the third iteration of the event (happy 1 year anniversary this May to CFE!), expect the unexpected. New features, new things, and new opportunities all sprinkled in with a consistent commitment to circularity, circular fashion, and circular economics will be coming to you on May 5, 2023.
For anyone receiving or viewing this email going “What is CFE?,” we have the lovely one-pager below that should give you a snapshot of all things CFE, what the Circular Fashion Expo is, and a central database to explore what we have done in the past and what we hope to do moving forward, check it out!

2) OVERVIEW + DEADLINES 🤍
The CFE.3 is officially 58 days away. With that in mind and to keep things organized, succinct, and understandable, there are a few deadlines we want to address regarding the many facets of the event that will be discussed in detail in this newsletter.
OVERVIEW:
CFE.3 will be taking place MAY 5, 2023 from 11 AM - 8 PM AT SIEBEL CENTER FOR DESIGN.
The day itself consists of a streamlined schedule of events, happenings, and programs. From a Swap Shop/Thrifting Event (details coming soon…), to live music, and a full production runway, CFE.3 will be a full day and evening.
An itinerary/schedule for the day with all these specific opportunities will be coming your way post-Spring Break (week of the 20th). Stay tuned for more!
DEADLINES:
The remainder of this email covers sign-up forms, opportunities to participate, and chances to have a hand in the production of CFE.3. With that in mind and due to the high intensity, fast-paced nature of the event itself and the planning that goes behind it, here are the deadlines (reiterated in each of the sections below) for all the soon-to-be-mentioned facets of CFE.3:

First order of business: RUNWAY! Here’s a message from Kailey Sedlacek, Director of the CFE.3 Runway:
TFN'S SEGMENT WILL INCLUDE A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT LOOKS. AUDITIONS WILL BE TAKING PLACE ON MARCH 21ST AT THE ART AND DESIGN BUILDING (ROOM TBD). THERE WILL BE A TIME SLOT FOR YOU TO FILL OUT ON WHAT EXACT TIME YOU WILL BE WALKING FOR US. LATER THAT NIGHT, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED IF YOU ARE SELECTED FOR CALLBACKS ON THE 22ND. CALLBACKS ARE FROM 6-9 AT THE ART AND DESIGN BUILDING (ROOM TBD). AFTER CALLBACKS, YOU WILL BE CONTACTED BY KAILEY SEDLACEK (KSEDL2@ILLINOIS.EDU).
IF YOU HAVE HEELS, WEAR THEM FOR YOUR AUDITION. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR US TO SEE YOU WALK IN HEELS, SO BRING THEM!

8) Runway Design Competition🤍

The Design Competition is back! Here’s a message from Kailey Sedlacek, Director of the CFE.3 Runway:
This year's Circular Fashion Expo (CFE.3) will take place at the Siebel Center for Design (SCD) on May 5th!
As a designer for CFE.3, you are expected to create runway looks using recycled materials to compete against UIUC's most creative clothing visionaries! There is no level of skill that is needed to enter- anyone can sign-up!
Our grand prize (the Judge's Choice Award) consists of a video and publicized interview on TFN's Instagram, Blog, Website, and Publication! You will have your very own spread dedicated to your winning look! What a great incentive to partake!
Our other winners will be featured within the CFE publication spread, Instagram, blog, and website! Again, another great prize! Having your creations be featured to a large audience- what's not to love?
Our categories for this year consist of: the Judges Choice Award, Audiences Choice Award, Most Thematic, Most Performative, Most Innovative Garment, Absolutely Zero-Waste

You may be asked to perform a variety of tasks, such as cleaning, helping to set up, assisting vendors, clearing the runway, helping models get ready, and other related duties. Your help will ensure that the event runs smoothly and that everyone involved has an amazing experience.

The Circular Fashion Expo (CFE) is UIUC's largest fashion-focused event pioneering a community of sustainability and innovation in fashion at the university. As a semesterly event that is a hybrid between a fashion show and an artist/vendor event, there is a lot going on, lots to cover, and a ton of content to be covered. So, we need YOU! If you are a photographer and/or a videographer, this is an opportunity for you. Please fill out this form if you would like to photograph + video the event, the artist vendor selection, as well as the runway. The event runs from 11am to 8pm on May 5th.
